The Ocean or Me
02:34
|
|||
This is how the world will be:
if I'd drown, it's the ocean or me.
I don't give a damn for the ways of man;
I write my name in the Nameless Sea.
Spent five years in the belly of a whale,
only escaped by sawing off its tail
Went to its sleep, bleeding in the deep
Its final song a ghostly wail.
I'm free to the wheel, got time to kill
Whether I ought to, I think I will
This is how the world will be:
if I'd drown, it's the ocean or me.
Well buzzards may circle overhead
for there is no honor among the dead
and five hundred ropes still hang for me:
two for the land and three for the sea.
But I bled out my shame and sin,
and the earth softly drank it, drank it in
said, You'll do fine, son, if you don't forget:
Silence buys pain, and loyalty buys shit.
Won't stand there singing like a broken bone
maimed by existence, left all alone.
This is how the world will be:
if I'd drown, it's the ocean or me.
Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I won't hang my head or hold my breath.
From hill to hill you can let it ring:
you don't need an angel if you bring your own wings.
Dig me a new home from the ground,
dye my hair with a bottle I found
Bring on the thorns and the rocks and blades;
what's another scar on a warrior's face?
But I'll take my steam so sweet, so sweet
though it burn my head and boil my feet.
Now I beat back the wolf with sticks and stones;
to make my bread, I grind my bones.
No rest for me. Will never be.
So I'll raise an axe and fell a tree.
This is how the world will be:
if I'd drown it's the ocean or me.

American Wizards

Shark and spider, windmill tower
Rain and magnet, road and weather
Hands craned to display an arc of flame
And he crackles electric, eyes shinin' bold
He crackles electric, eyes burnin' gold.
Star-iron flute carries the tune,
Struck by lightning picked by hand
And as the sunflowers rise,
there's a bird in the skies
Hollow bone, black and white,
shout out loud, vitriolite
Dreams cut crossways, vent divine vectors
and significantly divine rays claw dust.
As the rosewood cleaves into song,
with a jangle of steel, in the circle stood
And off there blasts the cannon of wood,
shot so straight, ain't no one else could
Ain't no one else could.
Put a hole in the cloud, down comes the shroud
He put a hole in the cloud, down comes the shroud.
And burst the campfire, sunset closes
Blue sky pink with a chain of roses
And decision and the question poses,
decision and the question poses.
One throws back his scarf, one takes a drag,
one laughs out loud, one tips his hat.
One reaches up to adjust his hood,
We got this? Good.

Holly Gree
03:05
|
|||
Holly Gree lies beneath the tree
trying to catch all the falling leaves
Spending her nights with the willow by the stream
who echoes all her tears.
A willow chain caught in the rain
Dreaming the day the same, the same,
but the days, they change
the named is strange
Oh, but I really can't complain;
I'm used to the pain.
Just lay the blame on me.
Holly Gree cries beneath the tree
'cause she just can't catch all the falling leaves
The willow is gone, and the dry, hollow stream
just swallows all her tears.
A leaf fell once, she caught it twice
Pulling down the sunset to dry her eyes
Poor Holly Gree, will she ever learn?
Poor Holly Gree, what's wrong with her?

BURN(!)
03:28
|
|||
Enforcer Sue told Crowbird Jim,
said, Come on, come on, come on in
I want you to go and kill me a moon
said, Come on, come on, come on in
I want you to go and kill me a moon
Shoot it on down and bring it real soon
With a pretty little bullet, with a pretty little grin
said, Come on, come on, come on in
Black night, that's right, blue light clean
said, Burn it up, burn it up, like gasoline
Black knight, that's right, blue light clean
Burn it up, burn it up, like gasoline
I said burn
Crowbird Jim told Enforcer Sue,
said, Listen to me, baby, lemme tell you what I'll do
I'm gonna get a moon bone and bring it to you
with a rattlesnake fang chain, bringing down the lead rain
splashing through the oilstains and dancing in the grue
I said listen to me, baby, let me tell it to you
Let me come on, come one, come on through
I said come on, come on, come on Sue
Firefight, that's right, black light queen
said, Burn it up, burn it up, like gasoline
Firefight, that's right, black light queen
Burn it up, burn it up, like gasoline
I said burn
Enforcer Sue told Crowbird Jim,
Let's go back, go back, go back in
Let's start a war, said come on in
Let's start a war, may the best man win

What Vanishes
03:26
|
|||
Trust in me and let me show you
Light a candle, let it glow you
Catch the flame before it vanishes.
While the candle burns a lie,
count the stars, count the time,
count the number of what vanishes.
What glitters grows gloomy,
what withers whispers to me:
We are all what vanishes.
(trust in me)
As the hand is made to fit the glove,
every man is born to love
and love only what vanishes.
Take the sea, take the sky,
the earth where we live and die;
just like you and I, it vanishes.
What glitters grows gloomy,
what withers whispers to me:
We are all what vanishes.
(trust in me)
Like a light I will lead you
to the sea I will bring you
to the deep where I sink you
to be one with all that vanishes.
Like the dawn we will arise
to set fire to the skies
and the ashen tears they cry
are the substance of what vanishes.
Ash to ash and hearts to dust,
turning as all being must
the center falls; you cannot trust
anything that vanishes.
Ash to ash and hearts to dust,
turning as all being must
the center falls; you cannot trust
anything that vanishes.

The Mining Song
03:56
|
|||
Lay that whip upon my back,
watch the blood be turning blue
Though the minecart goes down faster,
I'll be sticking here with you.
Someone blows the moletusk horn,
it's break, let off some steam
But the earth just keeps a-flying
though I see no goldly gleam.
Here old Yuletide's coughing murder
All the picks, they start to groan
See, the soil could bury all of us
or bury just the one.
They dig their way to Africa, they dig their way to Rome
They don't know what they're digging for,
but I'll be digging home.
The diamonds and the rubies, I will leave them all alone
Will you let me hold my breath until I'm gone?
The canary is a skeleton,
but no one seems to care.
They dig their tunnels nowhere,
stroke their beards while they compare.
Furlan's broke his back in two,
and Garnet's gone insane
They dig until they die, and then
they dig next day again.
They dig their way to Africa, they dig their way to Rome
They don't know what they're digging for,
but I'll be digging home.
The diamonds and the rubies, I will leave them all alone
if you let me hold my breath until I'm gone.
They pass around the water:
not a sip, but lots of frowns.
I think I'll skip it too, unless
there's enough for me to drown.
They dig their way to Africa, they dig their way to Rome
They don't know what they're digging for,
but I'll be digging home.
The diamonds and the rubies, I will leave them all alone
if you let me hold my breath until I'm gone.
